Our THOUGHTS

Remembering the Forgotten

The Rohingya crisis is among, if not the most multi-faceted humanitarian crisis faced by the world today; their persecution tells the story of thousands of years of Burmese and Arakan history. The solutions and ways forward are just as complex, requiring international cooperation and consensus on a level we are far from today.

Though legal action is undeniably imperative, the people at the core of the issue; the people in need of aid, are the Rohingya. Funding and support for humanitarian assistance programmes should be encouraged and amplified; allowing for organisations to enter affected areas and provide the Rohingya with the aid and care they need, without interference. The United Nations (UN) and its partners are currently seeking a grand total of 852.4 million USD for support of the 1.35 million Rohingya and host communities in Bangladesh, which is a substantial ask of the international community (UNHCR, 2024). Given historical shortcomings in aid programmes and increased need regarding the issue, achieving such a goal will demand improved aid infrastructure and strengthened awareness and understanding of the crisis.
